Square Boy has become sort of a mascot around here. He was the first illustration in the Shapes series, the test, the guinea pig. I have a soft spot for him, even if he is a bit of a blockhead.
After I had the first illustration figured out, we took a moment (or maybe a few moments) to explore the coding. The big questions were answered pretty quickly. How did our graphics look on a tablet screen? Pretty darn good. Can we get the animations to play fluidly? Yes, with a surprisingly good load time. Sound? That works too!
Square Boy convinced us that we had a viable idea for an app. And, more importantly, that this new format could provide what we really wanted: a way to make art that people can use every day.

PrestoBingo Shapes started with a simple idea: the world is full of shapes. A square isn't just a square. It's a present, a building, a jack-in-the-box, a window. Sometimes it's even something silly, like my brother's head, or a balloon that's not quite right. Shapes are everywhere.
This project started, as they all do, with tiny thumbnails in my sketchbook.
